Innovative Edge Session: A New Approach to Risk Sharing and Compliance Management

At the RINGO Learning Festival in 2022, RINGO Lab members Antonia Potter Prentice and Bert Maerten (the Idea Carriers) shared key learnings from developing and testing the innovation: A New Approach to Risk Sharing and Compliance Management.

How might we organise risk sharing and compliance management differently within international development and humanitarian actions in ways that are more effective, trust-based, empowering, and equitable?

This prototyping team is seeking to co-construct partnerships of genuine solidarity where risk is shared and continuously navigated and negotiated by all stakeholders. To do this, they looked at how ‘brave conversations’ between donors, international NGO intermediaries and local NGOs could lead to a new system of risk management and compliance that disrupts the existing power imbalance in the sector by looking beyond the needs of the dominant or more powerful actors.
